Privacy Policy

The short version

Farbound has no accounts, ads, analytics packages or trackers. We do not sell personal information. A name entered during onboarding, location, motion readings and calendar access stay on the device. Farbound connects to content services for narration, imagery, current space data and purchases, as described below.

Onboarding name

If you enter a name during onboarding, Farbound stores it on your device and uses it for one on-screen line. The name is not sent to our narration service or any third party.

Location

The Celestial Compass asks for your location so it can draw the sky above the place you are standing. The sky-events view can also use location to filter events by visibility. The request happens only when you open or enable one of those features, uses roughly kilometer precision, and works like this:

• Your coordinates are used on the device to compute where stars and planets sit in your sky.
• The app saves your most recent place on the device itself, so the Compass opens ready next time.
• Your coordinates are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

You can decline the permission. The Compass then falls back to a city you pick by hand, and every feature keeps working.

Motion

The Compass reads the phone's orientation sensors so the sky moves when you move. Sensor readings are processed on the device and are not stored or transmitted.

Calendar

If you choose to add a sky event, Farbound asks for write-only calendar access. It writes the event or events you selected to your default calendar. Farbound does not read your calendar, and it does not transmit calendar contents.

Purchases

Apple processes all purchases. We receive an anonymous receipt confirming the purchase so the app can unlock what you bought. We never see your name, card number or billing details.

Content requests

Farbound downloads imagery, current space data and narration audio from our content services and credited public archives. Narration requests send the text already supplied by Farbound and the selected narration voice. They do not include the onboarding name, an account, an advertising identifier or a personal profile.

Cloudflare hosts Farbound's content services. Apple processes purchases. Some credited imagery can be requested from NASA, ESA, Wikimedia Commons and other public archives named in the app. These services receive the ordinary technical information required to answer a web request. Our services keep short-lived operational logs only to keep the service working.

Your controls

You can deny or revoke location, motion and calendar permission in iOS Settings. Deleting Farbound removes its on-device settings and cached media. Events already added to Calendar remain there until you delete them in Calendar.

Changes

If the app's behavior ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top before the new behavior ships.
